I seemed to have gotten away from giving you ideas for saving money on restaurants. The reason is that often when they tell you there's a coupon you go to the website and it's no longer available. I hate to give out information that is no longer relevant. Well, I do have a few new websites that I believe are worth looking at. Here's what I've got for you today.
On March 3, Elevation Burger in Carlsbad will celebrate their grand opening. They've actually been open for several months. I have been there a few times and like it very much. They will have a few giveaways and special stuff for kids. Grass fed burgers are great. I would say Elevation is similar to the Burger Lounge, so if you like the Burger Lounge, I think you'll like Elevation Burger.
Wow-coupons.com has lots of restaurant freebies, most of them at chain restaurants like Arby's, McDonalds's, Olive Garden and more. The other website I would recommend is www.sayvings.com. This is another site that has lots of free coupons that you can download.
Don't forget to register at your favorite restaurant websites for special coupons on your birthday. I just had a birthday and got a free messy sundae from Sammy's, a free entree from Pick Up Stix, a free coffee from Starbucks, free ice cream from 31 Flavors, free side from The Counter, and a free entree from Ignite. All you need to do is register for their birthday club.
McDonald's has a McCafe Club. If you register for that you will get a free specialty coffee just for registering.
I notice more and more ads on TV for freebies from major restaurant chains. Some are absolutely free, like a recent free coffee from McDonald's, others require you buy something else. Either way, it's a great way to save money. I'll keep on trying to find the bargains out there.

Freebies and Savings You May Not Know About
Most of us are always looking for a bargain. I have three web sites to alert you to. Yes, some of them take a bit of work to navigate, but they all have fantastic savings on just about anything you can think of.
Mousesavers.com. It's great for discounts of the zoo, Wild Animal Park, Sea World and other amusement parks. It will tell you ALL the various discounts available, and will even tell you for example, how many points you get on American Express Membership Rewwards, if you have that card. You will get 6500 points for buying a 1 day child's pass to the zoo. This is an excellent website.
Volition.com has discounts and free stuff for everything from restaurants, to baby stores, to phone plans. One fun item I noticed was that every baby gets a free ticket to Ringling Bros. Barnam and Bailey Circus for their for attendance. Who knew?
Startsampling.com is the site to get free samples of just about anything. So many food products you won't believe it.
All these sites require a bit of patience. Don't give up. There are so many bargains out there. You just need to have the patience to surf these websites. Check one of these out one afternoon when you've got nothing to do. You'll be amazed at what you might discover.

Halloween Treats
It's Halloween time, and retailers are doing everything they can to get you to buy costumes, pumpkins and candy, and some are even offering coupons or freebies at their restaurant. A few have come to my attention, so check them out.
My favorite is Chipotle. Not only are they delicious anytime, but this special, if you're so inclined, makes me want to dress up like a fool. They'll give anyone $2 off a burrito, bowl, salad or taco on October 31 if they dress up as their favorite processed food!! What a concept. All the money will be donated to Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution, of which I am a great admirer. This was by far the most unique special I found.
Others include TGI Fridays, which will give a free appetizer to anyone who comes in costume on October 29, 30 or 31. IHOP will offer children free pancakes if they come in costume on October 31.
A few other specials out there now, not related to Halloween are the following: Taco Bell has a coupon for a free Frutista Freeze (Orange n'creme) through November 25. Go to the Taco Bell web site to find the coupon. Finally, Baja Fresh has two different coupons available through )October 31. Depending on what you buy, they offer a $2 or a $5 coupon. Again, check their website and print the coupon if interested.
In difficult economic times restaurants are always offering specials to the consumer. Anything to get you in the door. If you come once, their hope is that you'll like it and come again. Happy Halloween.

What is Groupon?
Groupon is here in San Diego, and I hope to stay. It means group+coupon, because in order to get a Groupon deal a certain number of people have to buy the deal. Here's how it works.
The ABC restaurant decides they want to offer a 30% discount on their meals, so they put an add on Groupon. If 100 people sign up for the deal (or whatever number the restaurant decides) then the deal is a go, and if you purchased it, you own it. It's really fantastic, both for the retailer and the consumer.
Groupon started in Chicago, and is now in dozens of cities across the country. My friend Michael works for the company and he expects Groupon to be huge. Retailers whose business is down or a company new in town, will offer a special to the public. They will get hundreds of customers from the Groupon promotion and hopefully these customers will become regulars at the regular price.
So what kind of businesses promote on Groupon? The answer is any and all. Just the other day a local tour company that does walking tours of San Diego restaurants had a promotion. The three hour $75 tour was available for $44. So I bought it, along with several of my friends, and we will have our own tour of the tastes of San Diego later this year. Spas, gyms, yoga studios, restaurants, dessert shops (cupcakes are big), tours of local attractions and car repair are just some of the many types of services you can find promoted on Groupon.
Go to www.groupon.com and check them out. If you register, you will get a new deal every morning in your in box. It's a great way to start the day. Most of them you won't buy, but every so often something great comes along that you can't live without. Take a look at what they offer and I hope you enjoy.

Coupons Save You Money
One of the easiest ways to save money on dining out, groceries, and entertainment is by using coupons. I never used to pay any attention to coupons, but now I choose where I shop and where I eat by the coupons I have.
We all know about newspaper and magazine coupons, penny saver coupons and value pak coupons that arrive every month in the mail, but there are dozens of web sites that offer nothing but coupons, and many products and restaurants that have coupons on their website. I found a site I think you will like. Check out www.sandiegorestaurants.com/coupons.cfm. It is full of printable coupons for you without having to wade through hundreds of items you're not interested in. It includes many restaurants in the Gaslamp and La Jolla and a few in North County. Soon I will be adding a coupon link to my blog where you can go for printable coupons. It will change as coupons expire. As soon as I figure out how to do it, I'll add it. In the mean time keep looking for coupon specials and let me know about any you think other readers would enjoy.
